Quality and Patient Safety

In alignment with our strategic priorities, CAPHC is very excited to announce our collaboration with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute( CPSI) and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in the development of neonatal and paediatric Improvement Resources for the Hospital Harm Indicator.

What is the Hospital Harm Indicator (HHI)?

Together, CIHI and CPSI have used administrative data to develop a new patient safety indicator for inpatient care. The indicator includes unintended occurrences of harm that can be potentially prevented by implementing evidence-informed practices.  Information on evidence-informed practices linked specifically to the indicator will point to known resources in patient safety.   This collaboration will provide significant benefits to patient safety in Canadian hospitals.   For more information on the HHI please click here to view a webinar Measurement to Action – The Hospital Harm Indicator

How can you help?

To ensure we have the most current evidence based resources CAPHC will establish a panel of content experts to review the clinical groups relevant to neonatal and paediatric populations.  We anticipate approximately 2 hours of expert time per clinical group.  The Improvement Resources will include an overview, the implications, and examples of evidence informed practice, measures, references and additional resources.
