Medical Director and Division Chair - Children’s Emergency Care LHSC Department of Emergency Medicine & Western Department of Paediatrics

The Medical Director and Division Chair - Children’s Emergency Care will provide operational and academic leadership to physicians and staff within the LHSC Children’s Emergency Department (ED), congruent with the clinical goals and mission of LHSC & the Children’s Hospital, the Department of Paediatrics and the Division of Emergency Medicine. The incumbent will serve as a direct report to the Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics and the Department Chief of Emergency Medicine LHSC/ St Joseph’s Health Care London. The role is to provide leadership and input, and to act as a liaison between Paediatric Emergency physicians and senior administration. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership to implement high quality and efficient clinical work in a collegial, and academic environment. S/he will a champion an environment of continuous quality improvement and scholarship. The incumbent will work closely with the Department of Paediatrics Chair/Chief and the Department of Emergency Medicine Chief for matters that require Division advocacy, support, validation or approval. The duties of this position are in accordance with the Professional Staff By-Laws and include medical supervision for optimum overall functioning of the Children’s Emergency Department, and will include: 

  • Aligns service strategies with Departmental and LHSC/ Western vision(s) 
  • Establishes collaboration with other program Chiefs/Site Chiefs / Division Chairs at Children’s Hospital to foster integrated care 
  • Facilitates the academic development of members of the Division of Pediatric EM
  • Collaborates with appropriate clinical Service Directors and applicable Vice President in operating budget development and departmental planning.
  • Collaborates with operational and academic leaders (ex. Division Chiefs, Directors)
  • Addresses patient related complaints, including investigation and follow up of the complaint 

Preferred Qualifications – Subspecialty certification in Paediatric Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required. This is a five year term position (renewable once), and compensation is stipend based.
